SCHOOL COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP PROGRAM
“Understanding through Interaction”
Course Information:
Every Tuesday evening from September 6, 2016 to November 22, 2016 (7:00PM to 9:30PM)
Waterloo Regional Police Headquarters
200 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge
Course Outline and Brief Overview:
- Students from Waterloo Region high schools will work with each other, Police Officers and community partners to discuss ways for youth to address youth crime issues.
- Traffic Services and teenage Impaired Driving issues.
- Youth crime and crime trends as they relate to youth.
- Domestic Violence Unit and the Major Case Unit and their role with youth.
- Technological Crime Unit.
- Homicide
- Intelligence and Drug Unit discussions on gangs and drug issues affecting youth.
- Youth Court Judge, Crown Attorney and Defence Attorney present the court system.
- “A Day in the Life” of a Police Officer. See what it takes to become a Police Officer.
- Guest lecturers from outside of the Policing environment will speak on their roles in working with youth involved in crime.
- There will be a group project that will be completed by the end of the 12 week session. The project will show how youth can make a difference in crime prevention.
The above are only a few of the highlights of the COPS AND YOUTH, SCHOOL COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP PROGRAM. The program is designed to be an interactive and fun filled learning program.
Participation in the program will achieve the students 40 hour community service commitment.
