Wednesday, February 4 is Winter Walk Day! This day is recognized by the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) in partnership with Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR).

In case of inclement weather, the alternate date for this event is Wednesday, February 11.

Walking or wheeling to school are great for the environment. These activities are even more fun in the winter by building community, creating friendships, and allowing students and their parents, families, and caregivers to explore the neighbourhoods they call home.

Exploring alternatives to vehicle transportation:

  • Boosts well-being
  • Helps reduce fossil fuel emissions
  • Creates a safe, active transportation environment around WRDSB schools

While this is only one day of action, it can inspire many to choose active travel more often. We hope these efforts will have a ripple effect throughout the school year.

We all have a part to play in building schools and communities that support all forms of transportation. Walking and wheeling are safe, healthy choices for students and their parents, families, and caregivers for the school journey.

How You Can Participate

All WRDSB students, staff, parents, families, and caregivers are welcome to participate in Winter Walk Day! As a bonus, students can register how far they walk or wheel for a chance to win 1 of 5 $25 Indigo gift cards. If this is something that your child is interested in, please visit the STSWR website for more information.

Remote Learners or Students Who Ride the Bus?

Remote learners and students who ride the bus can take part, too! Students who ride the bus are encouraged to walk to and from their bus stops. Remote learners are encouraged to take some time throughout their day and walk around their neighbourhood.
