Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) students can now earn a Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement when they complete more than 50 hours of community service or volunteer work before graduating high school.
The Ministry of Education requires students to complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities as part of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements. The new certificate aims to celebrate students who go above and beyond in their community involvement efforts, demonstrating dedication, leadership and a commitment to helping others.
In addition to recognizing civic engagement and community spirit, the certificate can also support students applying for jobs, college or university programs, apprenticeships and scholarships.
Levels of Recognition
There are three levels of recognition students may work towards:

Bronze Level: 50-99 community involvement hours

Silver Level: 100-199 community involvement hours

Gold Level: 200+ community involvement hours
Tracking Community Involvement Hours
Students interested in earning a Certificate should continue to keep track of their hours and be prepared to submit this information before graduation.
