The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is committed to supporting all students to:
- Achieve academic success
- Feel a sense of belonging
The 2025-2026 school year was the fourth year of implementing the Board Improvement and Equity Plan (BIEP). We have:
- Summarized our performance indicators
- Reflected on the implementation of our BIEP strategies and actions
Areas of Focus
The BIEP is one of the ways we review our progress and the outcomes of specific strategies to support students in achieving their learning goals in WRDSB classrooms.
The four areas of the BIEP were:
- Achievement: Every student will meet or exceed the provincial standards in learning environments that are culturally responsive.
- Preparing Students for Future Success: Every student is prepared for elementary, secondary, and post-secondary pathways in environments that promote high expectations and academic engagement.
- Mental Health, Well-being and Engagement: Every student will feel engaged in inclusive and affirming learning environments that support and build their awareness of mental health, well-being, and belonging.
- Services and Operations: All students, staff, parents, families, and the broader community will have confidence in public education at the WRDSB.
Updates on Outcomes from the 2025-26 Plan
Through the implementation of the Board Improvement and Equity Plan:
- There was a continued focus on the implementation of high-yield instructional practices in Literacy and Numeracy through the School Learning and Improvement Process:
- We support students to be prepared for future pathways by:
- Setting high expectations and a strong academic foundation for graduation and post-secondary success, while providing a variety of pathway choices, including experiential learning opportunities
- We continue to build on our commitment to improving mental health, well-being and belonging through:
- Supporting WRDSB schools to create environments where students feel a sense of connection and belonging
- Building staff capacity to support student mental health and accessible, inclusive and equitable education practices
- The new Services and Operations category recognizes the essential work of service and operations staff in supporting student achievement and well-being, while promoting confidence in public education at the WRDSB.
We also aligned the Board Improvement and Equity Plan with the Ministry of Education Student Achievement Plan, which includes:
- 11 indicators mandated by the Ministry of Education
- Data supplied by the Ministry and posted annually
Partnership with Parents, Families and Caregivers
The accomplishments in support of student achievement and well-being outlined in this update would not have been possible without the important partnerships we have with parents, families and caregivers. Together, we’re helping to ensure that every student can achieve academic success and know that they belong at their school.
