COURSE CHANGE REQUESTS

Course change request forms will available in the LHSS guidance office starting Wednesday, Sept. 9th.
Form Submission Deadline – Tuesday, Sept. 15th (by end of lunch)

Students requesting a course change must:

  1. Pick up the appropriate grade level form inside the LHSS Guidance Office opening week
  2. Carefully complete the form in full and obtain a parent/caregiver signature
  3. Return the signed form to the drop box in the Guidance Office starting on grade’s assigned date (see below)
  4. Be patient.  We receive a huge volume of change requests and it will take counsellors some time to go through all the forms
  5. You will be notified of your request status via your WRDSB email (confirm change with updated info or let you know it isn’t possible)

Please note:

  • Emails or phone calls sent over the summer or during opening week will not be considered for course change requests as a signed Course Change Request Form must be submitted to guidance
  • Students cannot book Guidance appointments for course changes. Guidance counsellors will contact students directly via email or call-downs based on submitted forms
  • Guidance counsellor calendars will remain closed for regular appointments until Friday, September 18th
  • Students must continue attending the classes on their current timetable until they are notified that a change has been made
  • Please do not approach classroom teachers asking for spots in classes.  With so many moving parts, there is no guarantee of available space

HOW COURSE CHANGES ARE PRIORITIZED

Requests will be reviewed based on urgency/need rather than simply the order in which they are received.

High Priority

  • Missing or incorrect compulsory courses
  • Significant errors with timetable (imbalanced courses, major pathway change)
  • Courses required for graduation
  • Courses required for post-secondary programs/pathway plans/SHSM
  • At-grade-level changes

Lower Priority

  • Elective course changes and/or preference-based requests
  • Reach ahead course changes (ex. students taking a grade 11 course in grade 10)
  • NOTE – requests to reorganize existing classes or switch teachers are not possible due to many full classes

Please remember that course changes are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

COURSE CHANGES OVERVIEW & SCHEDULE

  • Tuesday, Sept. 8th – students with critical timetable issues (such as missing compulsory course or misplaced) should come directly to guidance to speak with counsellor
  • Wednesday, Sept. 9th – forms available for pickup in guidance
  • Thursday, Sept. 10th – grade 12 students may submit change request forms
  • Friday, Sept. 11th – grade 11 & 12 students may submit change request forms
  • Monday, Sept. 14th – all grade levels may submit change forms
  • Tuesday, Sept. 15th – request forms due by end of lunch (all grades)
  • Remainder of Week – counsellors will continue to work through requests and contact students
  • After Opening Weeks – grade 11/12 students can still drop a class for a spare, but no new course adds possible (must remain full-time – min. 3 courses/semester)

SEMESTER 2 CHANGES

  • Once guidance finalizes school startup course change requests, further semester 2 changes will not be possible until after semester 1 midterm reports are available
  • Students requiring a second semester course change will need to book an appointment with their counsellor to discuss options (after sem 1 midterms)
  • Semester 2 course change appointments will close during the sem 1 exam week
  • Only required pathway/level change requests will be accepted after sem 2 starts
