Blended Learning Days for 2023-2024 School Year

We are excited to announce the continuation of Blended Learning days for the upcoming school year. Feedback from educators has been positive and we are deeply appreciative of the common goals and collaborative approach that is taking place to make the blended learning days a meaningful learning experience.

Blended learning days allow students to engage in synchronous and asynchronous work from home while staff engage in professional learning during the asynchronous portion of the day. We look forward to engaging staff in professional learning opportunities around instructional and assessment strategies that centre students in secondary schools.

Blended Learning Days (Wednesdays):  Sept. 27th, Dec. 6th, Feb. 28th, May 8th

  • Morning is dedicated to educator professional development, educators connect with students in the afternoon.
  • Student attendance at school is optional.  Students work on their own in the morning and can connect with a teacher virtually or in-person in the afternoon.
  • Teachers will assign work to students and take attendance for each class based on evidence of participation or check-ins during the day.  Daily schedule posted here.

Important reminders:

  • During the morning, secondary teachers will engage in Professional Development to support the capacity of teachers to be responsive to student learning needs.
  • Students will have remote asynchronous learning in the morning and short remote synchronous virtual meets for each class in the afternoon. The school schedule for these days is outlined below.
  • Blended Learning Days are instructional days. Students will learn asynchronously and synchronously and attendance will be taken by the teacher for each class. Teachers will take attendance once for the day based on student engagement at any point in the day.
  • A supervised study space will be available in the morning for students who chose an in person environment at school.
  • In the morning, students will participate in asynchronous learning by logging into their class VLE (Virtual Learning Environment = Brightspace or Google Classroom), and complete the work provided by their teachers for all their courses and in the afternoon they will be provided a synchronous session for each course to support the work that was assigned in the morning.
