Toronto District School Board on Twitter: "Update-Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) This year, EQAO is field testing a new online OSSLT. Participation in this field test is not mandatory & the

Over the past two years, grade 10 students have not been required to write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)  due to the pandemic. The Ministry of Education is restarting the literacy test this year for grade 10, 11 and non-graduating grade 12 students.  (e.g. students who are not on track to graduate by June 2022).

OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test) remains a graduation requirement for eligible students.  The Ministry of Education operationalizes the OSSLT through the Education Quality and Accountability office (EQAO).  The OSSLT, “measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9 (Applied level).”  Please see eqao.com for more information.

Students enrolled in the Secondary Remote Learning Program (SRLP) will not be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) this year. It is the Ministry of Education’s expectation that students who are writing the OSSLT must do so in-person; therefore, students in SRLP will be offered other opportunities to fulfill the literacy graduation requirement.

OSSLT will be administered twice in the 2021-2022 school year.  Grade 11s and non-graduating Grade 12’s  will be writing the OSSLT on both dates November 23 (online session 1) and November 24 (online session 2). These sessions will be taking place in class with their classroom teacher and will be running in the morning during block C classes.

There will be in-class  OSSLT Prep for students  that will be running via the period C classroom teacher between November 8-10 as it fits into each class’s  schedule.

Grade 10 students will be writing the OSSLT in the Spring of 2022.  The date will be announced in the second semester.

The OSSLT letters will be handed out in the homeroom to students that will be required to write this Fall.
