The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is pleased to announce two new Student Trustees elected for the 2024-25 school year. Feiyang Luo and Devansh Lakhanpal were elected during a student election in February 2024.

As WRDSB continues to develop student-centred plans and programs to foster connection and belonging in our schools, Student Trustees play an important role in ensuring decisions are made with students’ experiences, needs and well-being in mind. Feiyang and Devansh will serve a one-year term from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.

Meet the new Student Trustees

Devansh Lakhanpal

Hello, everyone! I’m thrilled to introduce myself as your newly elected 2024-25 Student Trustee for the South Riding. My name is Devansh Lakhanpal, and I’m a student at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School.

Throughout my high school journey, I’ve been fortunate to wear many hats – from serving as Student President to representing my school on the volleyball court. These experiences have shaped my leadership skills and instilled in me a deep sense of community and responsibility.

Outside of school, I’m proud to be an active member of the Air Cadet Program, where I’ve honed my leadership, citizenship, and physical fitness abilities. It’s been a big part of my life and has made me even more passionate about helping others and growing personally.

Now, as your Student Trustee, I’m eager to amplify your voices and drive positive change within our educational community. I’m committed to dedicating five to ten hours per week to engage with you directly, whether it’s through in-person roundtables or utilizing various communication tools to ensure ongoing dialogue.

Let’s work together to make sure everyone’s opinions count when decisions are made. I can’t wait to get started!

Feiyang Luo

Recognizing that the foundation of progress is systemic change, I am dedicated to inaugurating integral reforms for the prosperity of our student future.

I hold dear the significance of inclusive policy-making and thus, I actively seek to be educated on diverse perspectives in our community. I work as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Stork Family YMCA, lead the Asian Student Union at Cameron Heights, and head a team of students pursuing donations of books for correctional facilities across Canada.

I am beyond exhilarated to serve the WRDSB student body. As I continue to learn about the numerous intersections, I will be committed to using my role as Student Trustee to drive meaningful and inclusive change.
