An Inspiring Evening With Olympian, Clara Hughes – Open Heart, Open Mind (Wed. May 13th @ U of W)

The University of Waterloo is excited to invite our community, family and friends to attend an evening featuring one of Canada’s most inspiring and accomplished athletes, Clara Hughes.
In her talk, Open Heart, Open Mind, Clara shares a powerful and personal story beyond her athletic success. After early Olympic experiences, she faced severe depression — hidden beneath the pressures of elite sport. Her journey toward healing became central to her return to competition and her life’s purpose.

The only athlete in Olympic history to win multiple medals in both the Summer and Winter Games, Clara has represented Canada in both cycling and speed skating. She proudly served as Team Canada’s flag-bearer at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.  Now a dedicated humanitarian and mental health advocate, Clara inspires audiences through her message of resilience, connection, and hope.

We are pleased to share information about the LHSS Class of 2026 Commencement Celebration
Tuesday, June 16th (7:00pm) at Kitchener’s Centre in the Square

EVENT DETAILS:

  • Students planning to attend the celebration are required to purchase their commencement package via SchoolDay (includes cap/gown/commemorative 2026 tassel and commencement event fee)
  • Refer to Gaspar’s Size Chart to assist you with gown ordering
  • Please order your gown using our GOWN ORDER GOOGLE FORM (DEADLINE EXTENDED TO TUESDAY, APRIL 8TH!)
  • NOTE FORM ONLY ACCESSIBLE VIA YOUR WRDSB ACCOUNT!
  • Event tickets for family & friends will be available for online purchase via the Centre in the Square box office or in-person at the venue (assigned seating) – sales open Wednesday, April 8th at 10:00am
  • Our event has been near/completely sold out in recent years, so guests are recommended to purchase tickets early to avoid missing out
  • More information about parking & student drop-off coming closer to the event date
