LHSS Parking and Student Drop-off/Pick-up

With the start of the new school year, we’d like to remind our students and families about our parking and drop-off/pick-up areas.  To ensure the safety of everyone before and after school, please review detailed information posted here.

A few key highlights to note:

  • Walking, biking and drop off in the neighbouring streets is recommended over options involving driving to and parking at the site due to high traffic volume, congestion and safety.
  • The bus lanes and front entrance circle (650 Laurelwood entrance) and rear entrance (Creekside Drive entrance) are dedicated to buses only and are closed to student and parent community traffic from 7:55 – 8:40 am in the morning and 2:00 – 2:45 pm in the afternoon.
  • Drop off and pickup along Laurelwood Drive and Erbsville road are not safe locations to use.
  • Drivers may use the rear lower lot circle off Creekside Drive (see map below), available lower-lot spots or designated neighbouring streets for pick-up and drop-off.
  • The middle and upper lots/parking spots are reserved for staff vehicles only (as per signage posted). There is no student parking, drop-off or pick-up in the upper or middle lots.

Disconnecting From Work for WRDSB Staff

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Supporting the health and well-being of students and staff is a priority for the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB). Ensuring that our staff have healthy and professional boundaries […]

Welcome Back Information for Laurel Heights

On behalf of the staff of LHSS, we welcome everyone to the 2023-2024 school year. We are anticipating an exciting school year for everyone.

As part of the school year start-up, parents and caregivers are asked to review information to help you navigate the upcoming school year. Some information requires a response and other information is posted for your review. All the information can be found on the School Year Information section of the WRDSB website.

The “Action Required Information” that requires parent acknowledgement includes:

  • Emergency Contact Forms

    • A copy of this form has been provided to your child. This form verifies your child’s information, as well as your contact and emergency contact preferences. Please review the information and return to the school by Friday September 8, 2023 to your homeroom teacher

  • Do Not Ride – Student Transportation

    • The Do Not Ride Form must be completed annually by parents of children who qualify for busing but will not ride a bus because the parent has made alternative arrangements. If not already completed, and qualified transportation is not required, please complete the online form and submit to Student Transportation.

  • Release of Student Information (Media Release Consent Form)

    • A copy of this form is distributed yearly to each student and covers the use of student information for a variety of situations, including student photographs and recordings. In addition to this form, there are a variety of general purpose situations where schools and the board will use your child’s personal information that DO NOT require this additional consent form. An explanation of these routine uses and disclosures are outlined. This form is available on School-Day for parent acknowledgement; paper copies will not be sent home.

  • Responsible Use Policy

    • Digital Citizenship refers to online behaviour. A good digital citizen is someone who behaves appropriately and responsibly while using digital tools. The WRDSB has developed a Responsible Use Policy (RUP) Form which is also available on School-Day for parent acknowledgement. The RUP aligns with our school community standards of behaviour, and sets expectations for staff, students, and parents/guardians. This form is also available on School-Day for parent acknowledgement; paper copies will not be sent home.

  • Concussion Code of Conduct

    • The Concussion Code of Conduct for Inter-School Sports complies with the requirements of Policy-Program Memorandum 158, released September 25, 2019. The Waterloo Region District School Board has also developed a Concussion Management Procedure to support our students and coaches in dealing with concussions. This form is available on School-Day for parent acknowledgement; paper copies will not be sent home.

  • Medical Information

    • If your child has a recently diagnosed medical condition (e.g., anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy/ seizures or requires prescribed medication during the school day), please contact the school office as a Plan of Care may need to be developed. If additional information/action is required, appropriate forms, including administration of medication forms will be sent home for families to complete.

    • If your student has a previously diagnosed medical condition, a paper copy of the Plan of Care will be sent home for review and parent signature.

If you have questions about the “Action Required” Information for the 2023-2024 school year, please contact the school office at 519-880-9979.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Bryan Lozon

2023-2024 Course Changes

Students requiring a change to your courses for the coming school year, please review details below (also posted to your “Class of” Google Classroom):

  • Change request forms are available outside the guidance office as of Wednesday, Sept. 6th (no online forms available this year)
  • Make sure you use the correct change form for your grade (colour-coded) as there are different submission dates per grade – see below:
    • Grade 12 students (blue) – start Thursday, Sept. 7th
    • Grade 11 students (yellow) – start Friday, Sept. 8th
    • Grade 9 & 10 students (salmon) – start Monday, Sept. 11th
  • Final Request Deadline – 11:30am on Tuesday, Sept. 12th
  • Make sure forms are completed in full and signed by a parent/caregiver before returning to guidance (use drop basket on Ms. Cressman’s desk)
  • Please review the posted “FULL/CLOSED COURSES” list (posted outside guidance or in Google Classroom) as these courses are not available for change requests at this time
  • Students should avoid “reach ahead” course changes requests (such as a grade 11 student requesting grade 12 courses) as these are likely not possible due to full classes and priority placement of at-grade-level students
  • Email requests for course changes will not be processed as forms/signatures are required for ALL changes
  • Guidance counsellors will notify students VIA EMAIL of the status of change requests (or call down students as required to discuss requests).  NOTE – guidance calendars are not open for students to book course change appointments during startup.
  • Students are required to continue attending all current scheduled classes until any course changes have been confirmed
