WRDSB SUMMER SCHOOL 2024 – Important Student Information

Students interested in taking a summer school course this July (including co-op), please read!  NOTE – selecting either SUMSCH or SUMCOOP in MyBlueprint is NOT your registration for summer school – just your way to communicate to your guidance counsellor you plan to enroll in a course or co-op.  Registration will be a separate process in March/April.

SUMMER SCHOOL COURSES:

  • COURSE DATES – Tuesday, July 2nd to Friday, July 26th, 2024 inclusive
  • Summer school will offer both elearning (asynchronous only) and in-person options for courses this July.  See course offerings list posted here!
  • Grade 9 courses are only available for students who were unsuccessful in those credits during the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Students may only take ONE summer school course (or the 2 1/2 credit careers/civics courses).
  • Students will need to decide between either in-person or online options.
  • Regular attendance is CRITICAL for success at summer school.  Courses involve a minimum of 110 hours of content and instruction.  Failure to attend or engage regularly will likely result in a student’s removal from a course.
  • All work must be completed and submitted as instructed by the teacher.  Students (both in-person and e-learners) are expected to keep up with the course material, due dates and time commitments each week.
  • Courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Students/caregivers will be notified by email if the course they registered for is cancelled.
  • Due to time commitments for summer school, students who have full time jobs or other major commitments (ex. camps, etc.) during July should avoid registering for courses.
  • VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!   WRDSB GEO-FENCING blocks students from accessing your WRDSB GSuite accounts should you be travelling outside of Canada during the summer school period – you would therefore unable to log into D2L/Brightspace for courses.  If you have travel plans during July, you should NOT register for a summer course.

SUMMER SCHOOL CO-OP:

  • If you plan to take a 2-credit co-op this summer, your guidance counsellor will need to arrange an appointment with you in the coming weeks to register (last day for registration – March 28th at noon).
  • ALL summer co-op students are required to attend all pre-employment/orientation days – see below.
    • ORIENTATION DAY – Sat. April 13th (virtual)
    • PRE-PLACEMENT DATES (SATURDAYS) – April 27 (@CHCI), May 11 (virtual), May 25 (@CHCI), June 1 (virtual), June 15 (virtual)
  • CO-OP SUMMER PLACEMENT DATES – Thurs. June 27 to Fri. July 26 inclusive

Any students who have indicated plans to take summer school courses OR co-op will be contacted by guidance following MyBlueprint closing for course selections.

2024-2025 Course Selections Now Open – Deadline Mon. Mar. 4th @ Noon

MyBlueprint Logo

Course selections for the 2024-2025 school year are now open via the MYBLUEPRINT website!  Students can log in with their WRDSB account and password to access their high school planner.  Myblueprint provides excellent resources to help students research future courses and pathways, including detailed course descriptions, “WHO AM I?” surveys and links to countless post-secondary destinations.

As part of the course selection process, students are required to provide an up-to-date parent/caregiver email to ensure their selections have been reviewed and approved prior to submission.  Parents/caregivers – please ensure you check your email (including spam/junk folders) after your student has submitted their courses to help finalize selections.

Students are encouraged to check their “CLASS OF” Google classrooms for helpful instructions to get started with course selections.  Students can book appointments with their guidance counsellor to discuss course planning during the next few weeks while Myblueprint is open for submissions.  Guidance will also provide a number of lunch break opportunities for students needing assistance, including drop-in help sessions on Fridays and our “pop-up” info booth for the next few weeks.  Drop by for advice from any of our helpful guidance staff!
